New Weapons Master Instructor Appointments

Sgt. Dakota Goad and Lt. Luke Eastvold (MCF-ML) were recently appointed as Master Instructors - Weapons. In this capacity they will help oversee a specialized area of training to include standardization of curriculum, qualifications, certifications, and measurement of training.
They were selected in a competitive application process which included both an oral interview and a skills & aptitude assessment.

Congratulations to Lieutenants Edquist and Nichols on Promotions

Congratulations to Chris Edquist and Justine Nichols as they promote to Lieutenant at MCF- Moose Lake on 1st Watch!
Chris has been with the DOC for nearly 24 years, both at MCF- Moose Lake and the Challenge Incarceration Program at Willow River. He promoted to Sergeant in 2014 and has contributed to the facility as a Field Training Officer and instructor for Boundaries and CPR/First Aid.
Justine graduated from Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College in 2010 and completed Skills training there as well. She started at MCF- Moose Lake in 2011. She has worked many posts at the facility, including Work out of Class opportunities as a Central Services Administrative Specialist, Sergeant, and Lieutenant on 3rd Watch. She has been heavily involved as an instructor for Interpersonal Communications, Field Training Officer, Workforce Development Committee, Mentor Coordinator and co-chair for the Employee Events Committee.

Shout Out: Brandon Hennager and Moose Lake Carpentry Program

MCF- Moose Lake staff helped contribute to a beautiful memorial bench to honor a coworker's family loss. Brandon Hennager and the Carpentry Program at MCF- Moose Lake did a phenomenal job with this heartfelt project!

Shouting out every staff at MCF-ML that has had a hand in finding all of the contraband floating around the facility, medical ICS', and illicit substances. From the duty officer (Ofc. Bryant) to every officer who has dropped what they were doing to help, and to the Lt's, captains and OSI Kortney Sundeen for being on top of the safety and security of the facility. Also a huge shoutout to the segregation staff who have been busier than normal for going above and beyond to help with all of the tasks needing to be done! You are all phenomenal and appreciated!

Sergeant Marc Magnuson Retires from Moose Lake

Sergeant Marc Magnuson recently retired from MCF- Moose Lake after more than 29 years of state service!
Sgt. Magnuson began his career in 1994 at MCF- Stillwater and spent several years there before transferring to MCF- Moose Lake and completing his career there. Marc was a leader at the facility and around the department, most notably in the area of Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM). He led over twelve CISM sessions in the last year alone!

Skoglund Promoted to Captain at Moose Lake
Congratulations to Rich Skoglund on a well deserved promotion to captain at MCF- Moose Lake! Capt. Skoglund received his Law Enforcement degree from Hibbing Technical College before completing Post Certification at Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College. Rich's career began at MCF- Lino Lakes in 1994 as a Corrections Officer prior to transferring to MCF- Moose Lake after one year.
Rich promoted to sergeant in 2009 and remained in that role until he promoted into the OSI- Special Investigator role in 2011. He completed certification as a polygraph examiner in 2017. Rich transitioned into the Lieutenant role in 2021 prior to his recent promotion to his newest leadership role.

Hattenberger Promoted to Sergeant at Moose Lake

Congrats to Ben Hattenberger who was promoted to Sergeant on 07/05/23.
Sgt. Hattenberger started his career in corrections in October of 2017 here at MCF- Moose Lake.
Sgt. Hattenberger has worked in most of the areas here at Moose Lake and brings valuable knowledge and experience to 3rd Watch. Sgt. Hattenberger always looks to improve on practices and often brings his ideas to leadership. His forward thinking has led to better security here at Moose Lake. We look forward to his leadership and seeing what he brings next to the table in the future.

Congratulations to Lieutenant Frank Misiak as he retires from MCF- Moose Lake after 28 years of state service! Lt. Misiak was integral in the department's Crisis Negotiation Team, Criticial Incident Stress Management Team, and a staple for 1st Watch at Moose Lake.
