  • Kris Rish Promotes to Moose Lake Warden

    Please join us in welcoming and congratulating Kristin (Kris) Rish, who has accepted the Warden position at Moose Lake.

    Kris came to the department after graduating from UMD with bachelor's degrees in both criminology and Sociology. She was first hired at MCF-Lino Lakes as a corrections officer in 1994 and transferred to Moose Lake in 1995. She has also held positions as a case manager, CPD, OSI (specializing in death investigations), AWA, and most recently as AWO since 2017.

    Kris has been involved in numerous committees and initiatives in her 30-year career and is a firm believer in the philosophy of servant leadership; she plans to implement the practice wherever possible and practical at Moose Lake.

    In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, and staying active. She is looking forward to serving MCF-Moose Lake as Warden and continuing the strong legacy it has in maintaining staff safety and transforming lives.

  • Rush City Promotes Chandler to Sergeant

    Officer Jamie Chandler recently promoted to Sergeant in Complex 4 on 3rd Watch at MCF-Rush City.

    Sgt. Chandler began her career in MCF-St. Cloud, and then transferred to MCF-Rush City.

  • Payne Promoted to Virtual Court Navigator Team Lead

    Jana Payne began her career with DOC in April 2021 as an OAS-I in Behavioral Health at MCF-Faribault.

    Since then she joined the FRB Records team as an OAS-SR and OAS-P, learning all aspects of the records area. While in records, Jana had the opportunity to work closely on the Virtual Court Initiative as MCF-FRB was selected as a pilot host using an online scheduling tool in coordination with the Minnesota Judicial Branch.

    The work completed thus far has resulted in over 700 scheduled virtual appearances between MCF-SCL and MCF- FRB. As a result of Jana's hard work, she was promoted to a Virtual Court Navigator Team Lead position.

  • Faribault's New Transitions Coordinators

    Jason Seath and Alec Pfarr were recently awarded the Transitions Coordinator positions at MCF-Faribault!

    Seath started at FRB as a CO in 2011 working 2nd & 3rd watch utility. He joined the Mentor Program in 2014 and became a member of the Mentor Committee in 2021. Throughout his time at FRB he's been an FTO, CPR Instructor and did a work out of class in Transitions. He promoted to the 3rd watch Rogers Recreation Sgt. position in 2021.

    Pfarr started at FRB as a CO in 2018. Since that time he was a Control Tactics & Self-Defense Instructor, and FTO and a Mentor. He's completed work out of class assignments in the areas of Transitions and IP work assignments/room assignments.

  • SORT Master Instructor-Chemical Munitions Appointment

    Sgt. Justin Watrin (MCF-RC) was recently appointed as Special Operations Response Team Master Instructor – Chemical Munitions. In this capacity he will help oversee a specialized area of SORT training to include standardization of curriculum, qualifications, certifications, and measurement of training.

    Watrin has been with the DOC for 18 years, a member of SORT for 15 years, and a SORT instructor for 12 years.

    Form Sgt. Kok: I worked in the WI-DOC from 2003 until 2014 working in both a medium and maximum security institution. I then worked at a halfway house in the Twin Cities for a half year. I then began my career in the MN-DOC in January of 2015. Since then, I have worked in nearly every position at Lino and look forward to continuing to grow and learn in this new and challenging role."

  • Congratulations on Oak Park Heights Sgt. F. McGraw's Promotion

    Congratulations to Officer Francis McGraw on his promotion to Sergeant in Complex2/Canteen on 3rd Watch!

    Officer McGraw began his career with the DOC in 2017 here at OPH. He is currently a WOOC Sergeant in Complex 3 on 3rd Watch. During his time at OPH he has become an FTO, K-9 Decoy, and a member of the SORT Team.

    Officer McGraw holds a BA in Criminal Justice and has a background working with at risk youth.

  • David Schmitt Promoted to Lt. at Rush City

    David Schmitt was promoted to the 1st Watch Lieutenant Position at Rush City effective 09/13/2023. David has a wealth of sucurity and criminal justice experience in the DOC, Law Enforcement and the Military. David started with the DOC in 2011. He has an AS Degree, is Post Certified and an Army Veteran.

  • Sue Hughes Returns to MCF-Faribault as AWO

    AWO Hughes started her corrections career in 1998 as an officer at MCF-FRB. She worked in many positions including Sergeant, WOOC Lt., Case Manager, Program Director and Associate Warden of Administration. In 2019, AWO Hughes transferred to MCF-SHK as a promotion to Associate Warden of Operations.

    Prior to her return to FRB at the end of August, she was fortunate to work as the AWO at MCF-RW for approximately 6 months. Working in multiple facilities and varying capacities has been a great opportunity for AWO Hughes.

    During her corrections career she has been a member of or participated in a variety of teams/committees to include: SORT, PPCT instructor, CISM, ICS instructor and a variety of continuous improvement initiatives/projects.

    AWO Hughes is grateful to be back at FRB and is looking forward to working with everyone!
