Proposal: Minnesota Department of Corrections New Admission Fact Sheet Draft
Most people who go to prison have never been there. No matter what happened to bring them to the moment where they find themselves waiting, in a jail cell, for a bus to bring them to prison, most people don't know what to expect.
The Minnesota Department of Corrections is working to pull back the curtain and bring more transparency to what happens inside the prison walls. While we hope to do even more to increase transparency in the near future, one initial step we are taking is to design a succinct, practical fact sheet with important information about a person's first days in prison.
The fact sheet will be shared with county jails, defense attorneys, and others to be distributed to individuals who have been recently sentenced to prison. We hope the fact sheet will help dispel some of the mystery and uncertainty about the process of beginning a prison sentence.
But first, we are seeking input from members of the public about what information would be helpful to include. We have designed an initial draft of the fact sheet, which you can view by clicking the link below. The fact sheet will be folded into a three-panel pamphlet.
After you have reviewed the fact sheet, please respond to the questions in the survey below.
We will finalize the fact sheet after receiving feedback from the community. It will then be translated into multiple languages and distributed for use.

When a person is preparing to begin a prison sentence, they usually have many questions. There are not many credible sources of information about what to expect in those first days. We are seeking to demystify the process. Please review the proposed fact sheet, answer a few questions, and provide your feedback.
